A pre-race sample was taken from Mercedes Red upon arrival at the course, prior to kennelling.

Tyson's A Rebel, Diesel's A Rebel and Dyna Penny were quick to begin. Vixstar was slow to begin.
Aeroplane Indy and Diesel's A Rebel collided soon after the start. Mercedes Red and Winlock Patches collided soon after the start. Vixstar checked off Diesel's A Rebel approaching the first turn and collided heavily with Aeroplane Indy; Vixstar fell as a result. Aeroplane Indy, Mercedes Red and Winlock Patches collided approaching the first turn. Mercedes Red galloped off the heels of Diesel's A Rebel approaching the first turn. Aeroplane Indy and Mercedes Red collided several times on the first turn. Winlock Patches and Dyna Francine collided on the first turn. Diesel's A Rebel and Dyna Penny collided on the first turn. Vixstar was vetted following the event. It was reported that the greyhound sustained an injury to the right tensor fascia (triangle) muscle, a cut above the right eye and an abrasion on the right radius. A ten-day stand down period was imposed.
