AGED PRIZE MONEY MEETINGS - AUGUST 2018.
15/08/2018
In an attempt to maximise racing opportunities for all levels of greyhounds, a number of 'Aged Prize Money (APM) meetings' will be conducted during August 2018.

These APM meetings focus only on the actual greyhound's current APM value, with greyhounds selected to race against greyhounds of a similar value.

Greyhounds that are drawn as a Reserve in a higher level event will also be listed as a runner in the next level event, and if required will be drawn into the higher level race (in a similar fashion to being a reserve in a final and also drawn into another race).

'Open APM meetings' also apply a '50% rule' which for greyhounds with three (3) or more wins (ie. Grade 5 or better), the highest APM greyhound will only be drawn if the eighth highest greyhound's APM value is at least 50% of the top greyhound.

New race grades are applied as follows:

MAPM - For Maidens;
7APM - For Grade 7 (1 win) greyhounds;
6APM - For Grade 6 (2 win) greyhounds;
RWAPM - For any grade of greyhound that has won the number of races required;
APM - For Grade 5 or better greyhounds.

APM meetings in August:

Sandown (SAP) - Sunday 19th August (Prov. Full Stakes) - Open APM - noms close Wednesday 15th August @ 10:00 am;
Ballarat - Monday 20th August (Prov. Half Stakes) - $1,500 APM Limit - noms close Thursday 16th August @ 8:00 am;
Ballarat - Thursday 23rd August (Prov. Full Stakes) - Open APM - noms close Monday 20th August @ 11:00 am;
Sandown (SAP) - Sunday 26th August (Prov. Full Stakes) - Open APM - noms close Wednesday 22nd August @ 10:00 am;
Warragul - Thursday 30th August (Prov. Half Stakes) - $2,000 APM Limit - noms close Monday 27th August @ 9:00 am;
Geelong - Thursday 30th August (Prov. Full Stakes) - Open APM - noms close Monday 27th August @ 11:00 am.

GREYHOUND INJURY MANAGEMENT WORKSHOP WITH DR CHRIS BOEMO
13/08/2018

GRV is pleased to offer registered participants, a series of practical workshops covering Injury Identification and First Aid in partnership with Dr Chris Boemo. They are free of charge  with lunch provided. Participants will be provided with some useful resources to take away. Numbers are limited to 15 people per workshop, and will be held at the following locations:

Shepparton Wednesday 26 September 2018, 4.30pm-9.00pm
Meadows Thursday 27 September 2018, 10.00am - 3.00pm
Warragul Wednesday 3 October 2018, 10.00am - 3.00pm
Cranbourne Friday 16 November 2018, 10.00am - 3.00pm
Bendigo Monday 19 November 2018, 10.00am - 3.00pm
Warrnambool Friday 23 November 2018, 10.00am - 3.00pm
Geelong Thursday 29 November 2018, 10.00am - 3.00pm

With a focus on practical application, the workshops will assist participants in identifying, preventing and treating injuries or illnesses that can impact on a greyhound’s ability to get to the race track and successfully race. The workshops will begin by establishing a baseline healthy greyhound, before identifying both the physical and behavioural changes that can be indicative of an illness or injury. Following this, some key principles of preventative health will be discussed. This will include topics such as the impact of feeding regimens, vaccinations, and exercise on the racing greyhound. The final topic will assist participants with the examination and treatment of their greyhounds, with a focus on areas such as bandaging techniques for soft tissue injury and fracture support, and exercise rehabilitation techniques and the overall management of injuries. Given the practical nature of the workshops, participants will be encouraged to bring their own greyhounds.

To book yourself into a session, contact GRV on (03) 8329 1118 or email welfare@grv.org.au
