Steward's Report
All staff & participants attending the race meeting wore face masks at all times when inside the kennel block and associated buildings, and when engaged in the exclusive race day functions of handling, boxing, starting and catching greyhounds.
In accordance with the GRV Hot Weather Policy, this meeting was deemed 'Heat Affected'. At the commencement of kennelling, the outside temperature was 26.6 degrees and the kennel temperature was 18.4 degrees. The Stewards continually monitored the temperature at the venue as per the GRV Hot Weather Policy.
During kennelling Stewards conducted a carpark check on all trainers’ vehicles engaged in today’s meeting. Stewards were satisfied that all transport had adhered to the GRV Hot Weather Policy and the GRV Transportation of Greyhounds Policy.
Stewards spoke to kennel representative Ms S Elmes regarding the scratching of the three greyhounds, Chasing Summer, Chasing Teddy and Chasing The Edge in this event. Stewards noted that Chasing Love also from the same kennel was left engaged to race. Ms S Elmes stated that due to the meeting being deemed heat affected, the kennel did not have sufficient means of transport to accommodate all runners engaged today under the GRV transportation policy and as a result scratched these runners as per the GRV Hot Weather Policy. Ms Elmes further added that in her opinion Chasing Love would be competitive in today's event. Stewards noted her comments and directed that a post race sample be taken from Chasing Love.
The Stewards were advised that the track was medium harrowed on Wednesday, 6 January 2021.
Golden Child was quick to begin. Skibo Boy was slow to begin. Pat May Joy, Chanko Girl and Chasing Love collided soon after the start; checking Chanko Girl and Chasing Love. Chanko Girl and Chasing Love collided approaching the first turn; checking both greyhounds. Chanko Girl and Chasing Love collided in the home straight; checking Chanko Girl.
Chanko Girl underwent a post-race veterinary examination - no apparent injury was reported.
Stewards spoke to handler, Mr P Hammerstein regarding the racing manners of Chanko Girl in the home striaght. After hearing evidence from Mr Hammerstein, viewing all the available race footage and acting on their observations, Stewards took no further action.
A post-race sample was taken from Golden Child - the winner of the event.
A post-race sample was taken from Chasing Love - placed fourth in the event.
