A pre-race sample was taken from Nicholas Rose.
Whodat Opal was quick to begin. Belt Up Ronny and Nicholas Rose were slow to begin. Whodat Opal visibly eased approaching the first turn and lost considerable ground checking Can't Say That. Toby Time and Shanlyn Rob collided on the first turn checking Shanlyn Rob. Do Good Davlin and Nicholas Rose collided on the first turn checking Do Good Davlin. Do Good Davlin and Can't Say That collided in the home straight. Aston Turbine, Toby Time and Shanlyn Rob collided approaching the winning post.
Whodat Opal underwent a post race veterinary examination and was re-examined following race 8. Whodat Opal was found to have an injured left triangle muscle and left pencil muscle. A 5 day stand down period was imposed. Stewards spoke to trainer Mr. S. Ralph regarding the greyhound's racing manners approaching the first turn. Acting under the provisions of GAR 69(B)(1) Whodat Opal was charged with failing to pursue the lure with due commitment (by reason of injury). Mr. Ralph pleaded not guilty to the charge, Whodat Opal was found guilty and must perform a satisfactory trial (all tracks) pursuant to GAR 69(B)(1)(a) before any future nomination will be accepted.
