Steward's Report
Pronator was quick to begin. Saint Mac and Southern Thunder were slow to begin.
Ed Deeds, Southern Thunder and Al's Vixen collided on the first turn. Blue Yaala galloped on the heels of Pronator on the first turn. Saint Mac and Al's Vixen collided on the first turn. Shift Change faltered approaching the home turn, stumbled and lost considerable ground. Saint Mac and Al's Vixen collided several times approaching the home turn. Shift Change and Southern Thunder faded in the home straight.
Shift Change underwent a post-race veterinary examination and was re-examined after 20 minutes and was found to have right hindleg back muscle and pencil/whip injuries. A 90 day stand down period was imposed.
Southern Thunder underwent a post-race veterinary examination - no apparent injury was reported. Stewards spoke to Mr Darren Geyer, the kennel representative of Southern Thunder regarding its performance in the home straight. In accordance with GAR 75 (1), the Stewards requested Mr Geyer to report as soon as practicable anything that may have affected the running of Southern Thunder in the event, which was not noted by Stewards during or immediately after the event.
Following the running of this event, Stewards inspected the track approaching the home turn and were satisfied it was satisfactory for racing.
