Steward's Report
Trainer, Mr G George was issued a warning after failing to produce the registration card for the greyhound Butternut (GAR 33). Mr George presented a phone copy of the registration card.
Mr P Abela failed to appear at the kennels by the appointed time to retrieve and prepare Happy Ruby for racing. A warning was issued pursuant to GAR 46 (2).
Take A Sunflower checked off Work Zone soon after the start. La Bamba Icon, Happy Ruby, Work Zone and Star Catcher collided approaching the first turn; checking La Bamba Icon, Happy Ruby and Work Zone. Aston Hacket and Star Catcher collided on the first turn; checking Star Catcher and Longstaff. Happy Ruby and Work Zone collided on the home turn. Aston Hackett and Take A Sunflower collided in the home straight. Star Catcher turned its head outwards in the home straight and collided with Aston Hackett resulting in both greyhounds being checked.
Star Catcher underwent a post-race veterinary examination and was found to have left foreleg wrist and left hindleg triangle injuries, a 14 day stand down period was imposed. Stewards spoke to representative, Mr S Waycott regarding the greyhounds racing manners in the home straight. Acting under the provisions of GAR 69B (1), Star Catcher was charged with failing to pursue the lure with due commitment (by reason of injury). Mr Waycott pleaded not guilty to the charge, Star Catcher was found guilty and must perform a Satisfactory Trial in accordance with GAR 69B (1) and pursuant to GAR 72, before any future nomination will be accepted.
