Gotham Duke and Incy Valley were quick to begin.
Jumbo Zeal, Magic Ozzie and Rattle Can You collided soon after the start, checking Magic Ozzie and Rattle Can You. Diamond Socks and Chill Out Pedro collided on the first turn, checking both greyhounds. Chill Out Pedro and Diamond Socks collided and checked on the first turn, causing both greyhounds to race wide. Gotham Duke eased and raced wide approaching the home turn. Clean Slate and Rattle Can You raced wide approaching the home turn. Gotham Duke failed to pursue the lure with due commitment in the home straight and collided several times with Jumbo Zeal.
Gotham Duke underwent a post-race veterinary examination and was re-examined following race four. Gotham Duke was found to have an abdominal muscle injury, a seven day stand down period was imposed. Stewards spoke to trainer Ms Melanie Lithgow, regarding the greyhounds racing manners approaching the home turn and in the home straight. Acting under the provisions of GAR 69(B)(1), Gotham Duke was charged with failing to pursue the lure with due commitment (by reason of injury). Ms Lithgow pleaded guilty to the charge, Gotham Duke must perform a Satisfactory Trial (all tracks) pursuant to GAR 69(B)(1)(a) before any future nomination will be accepted.
