Zipping Sassy and Curt Lee collided soon after the start. Curt Lee checked off the heels of Zipping Sassy on the first turn. Wally Milne checked off the heels of Crimson Vixen approaching the home turn. Wally Milne galloped on the heels of Time To Talk approaching the home turn. Wally Milne, Crimson Vixen, Premier Rumble and Runnin' Royalty collided heavily on the home turn causing Runnin' Royalty to stumble and lose ground as a result. Runnin' Royalty faded in the home straight.
Runnin' Royalty underwent a post-race veterinary examination and no apparent injury was reported.
