Steward's Report
Track Curator Mr B. Skurrie advised stewards that the track was deeply harrowed on 14 January 2019.
In accordance with the GRV Hot Weather Policy, this event was deemed Heat Affected. The outside temperature when kennels opened at 5.22pm was 30.0 degrees. The outside temperature when kennels closed at 6.35pm was 31.6 degrees. The kennel temperature at close of kennels was 20.0 degrees.
The outside temperature at race start time was 32.0 degrees, the inside kennel temperature immediately prior to the race when the greyhounds were retrieved was 21.0 degrees.
Saint West was slow to begin.
Out Break and Mrs. Flintstone collided soon after the start. Sleepwalk Dance, Hot Finish and Grace Ali collided approaching the first turn checking Hot Finish. Hot Finish galloped on Grace Ali on the first turn severely checking Hot Finish and Grace Ali, Grace Ali fell as a result checking Mrs. Flintstone, Star Reiko and Saint West, Mrs. Flintstone and Saint West raced wide as a result. Sleepwalk Dance checked off Out Break on the second turn. Out Break and Star Reiko collided entering the home straight and again approaching the winning post.
Grace Ali was vetted following the event. It was reported that the greyhound sustained a right deltoid, right shoulder muscle, left and right hip injuries, a 14 day stand down period was imposed.
A post-race sample was taken from Riddles - winner of the event.
