A pre-race sample was taken from Way Things Are.

Cup Half Full and Tiger Tees were quick to begin. My Name's Katie was slow to begin. Sugar Mountain and Bevvies Bullet collided approaching the first turn checking Bevvies Bullet. All Inn Johnson checked off Sugar Mountain approaching the first turn. Sugar Mountain checked off Cup Half Full approaching the first turn. All Inn Johnson checked off Bevvies Bullet on the first turn. Way Things Are, All Inn Johnson, Sugar Mountain, Bevvies Bullet and Travel Fair collided on the first turn checking Way Things Are and severely checking Bevvies Bullet, Sugar Mountain and My Name's Katie, Sugar Mountain fell as a result. Bevvies Bullet checked off All Inn Johnson entering the home straight.

Sugar Mountain was vetted following the event. It was reported that the greyhound sustained injuries to both triangles, both pencil muscles, both monkey muscles and the right wrist. A stand down period of 10 days was imposed. 

Stewards charged Mrs. P. Boots with a breach of GAR 46(2) in that she failed to appear at the kennels by the appointed time to retrieve the greyhound Sugar Mountain. Mrs. Boots pleaded guilty to the charge and was fined the sum of $100.
