Gala Rose was slow to begin.  Alouette Josie was very slow to begin (3 lengths).  She Loves Me and Bulk Cairns collided soon after the start.  Vane Power and Gala Rose collided at the 300 metre mark.  Sly Deception checked off Bulk Cairns at the 150 metre mark.  Nanny's Poppy and Bulk Cairns collided at the 100 metre mark.  Vane Power and Krazy Blaze collided at the 50 metre mark.

The Club Veterinary Surgeon examined Burra Flight and no illness was detected.  The greyhound was a late scratching at 11:27am due to weight variation (GAR 39).  A 10 day stand down period was imposed.  Strewards spoke to Mr. K. Kubik, the trainer of Burra Flight after it was established that the greyhound's last start on 17 February 2017 (weight - 28.7kgs) was not recorded on the weight card.  Mr. Kubik informed Stewards that he had taken over Training Burra Flight on 22 February 2017 and as the last start was not recorded on the weight card he was preparing the greyhound for todays race as per the weight recorded from it's start at Ballarat 16 January 2016 (28.2kgs).  Stewards noted Mr. Kubik's explanation and no fine was issued. 

Addition (5/3/17) - After taking into consideration the unusual circumstances surrounding the late scratching of Burra Flight, Stewards on this occasion lifted the 10 day stand down penalty previously imposed on the greyhound. 

Move It and Puzzled Royal were slow to begin.  Move It crossed to the outside soon after the start.  Hey Shaza Fozz and Why Not Becky collided at the 250 metre mark.  Prince Stealth marred the running of Tiger Rising at the 100 metre mark checking Tiger Rising and Why Not Becky.

Prince Stealth was vetted following the event.  It was reported that there was no apparent injury found.

Stewards spoke to Mr. R. Boyce, the trainer of the greyhound Prince Stealth regarding the greyhound's racing manners at the 100 metre mark.  Acting under GAR 69(1), Stewards charged Prince Stealth with marring.  Mr. Boyce pleaded guilty to the charge.  Prince Stealth was found guilty and suspended for 28 days at Healesville and it was directed that the greyhound perform a Satisfactory Trial (all tracks), pursuant to GAR 69(2)(a) before any future nomination will be accepted.

Seraph, Gold Rush Dozer, Grand Hero and Still Just Under were slow to begin.  Milly's Choice and Grand Hero collided soon after the start.  Milly's Choice crossed to the outside at the 250 metre mark checking Grand Hero, Still Just Under and Blue Deception.  Grand Hero and Still Just Under collided approaching the 200 metre mark.  Gold Rush Dozer crossed to the outside approaching the 200 metre mark.  Milly's Choice, Spring Top and Jack's Lass collided at the 100 metre mark checking all three greyhounds.

Stewards spoke to Mr. K. Kelly the Trainer/Handler of the greyhound Milly's Choice and issued him with a warning regarding his late arrival to the kennels to prepare the greyhound for racing, pursuant to GAR 46(2). 

Baron Lad was a late scratching at 7:37am due to injury (GAR 23).  A 10 day stand down period was imposed.  Stewards will require a veterinary certificate before any future nomination will be accepted. 

Stewards spoke to Mr. A. Craven, the trainer of Bryden Lady regarding the length of time the greyhound has had between races.  Bryden Lady last raced on 23rd November 2016 and is returning to race after a spell.

Mr. G. Nicoll, trainer of Botanic Lass declared a new weight of 26.7kgs for the greyhound in accordance with GAR 39(2).  Botanic Lass last raced at 28.1kgs.

Ninetymile Barry was slow to begin.  Swift Spur and Bedlum collided soon after the start.  Ninetymile Barry, Bryden Lady, Swift Spur and Bedlum collided at the 250 metre mark.  Bedlum and Star Douglas collided at the 150 metre mark.  Ninetymile Barry and Fiery Miss collided at the 50 metre mark.

Bedlum was vetted following the event.  It was reported that the greyhound sustained an injury to its left wrist.  A 5 day stand down period was imposed.

A pre-race sample was taken from Lido's Boy.

Bugs Boloney was slow to begin.  Lido's Boy, Dodgy Dede and Marmasette collided soon after the start.  Dr. Poppel, Dodgy Dede and Marmasette collided at the 250 metre mark.

Rosie's Gift and Night Prancer were slow to begin.  Hey Alio Fozzio and Say Nothing collided at the 250 metre mark.  Hey Alio Fozzio checked off Night Prancer at the 200 metre mark.  Jett Zafonic and Vane Blue collided at the 50 metre mark.

Spoil The Party stumbled at box rise and was very slow to begin (3 lengths).  Phil Miyoot, Ginger Warrior and Advocate collided soon after the start.  Galloping Ashley, Rozehill Beth and Showgirl Miss collided at the 300 metre mark checking Advocate.  Galloping Ashley and Showgirl Miss collided at the 250 metre mark.  Phil Miyoot and Galloping Ashley collided approaching the 150 metre mark.  Ginger Warrior and Showgirl Miss collided at the 150 metre mark.

Dr. Balboa, Selynya Flash and Firing Point collided soon after the start and again at the 300 metre mark; Firing Point fell as a result.  Keep Talking and Moore Of Darcy collided at the 100 metre mark and again at the 50 metre mark.

Firing Point was vetted following the event.  It was reported that the greyhound sustained abrasions to its right stopper and left metacarpal.  A 5 day stand down period was imposed.

Rapanui Rebel was slow to begin.  Dr. Condor, Faboom and Bellachino collided at the 300 metre mark and again at the 250 metre mark checking Bellachino. Dr. Condor crossed to the outside at the 150 metre mark checking Faboom.

A sample was taken from Goodnight Irene, the winner of the event.

Challis Ridge and Oh Lele Simon collided soon after the start.  Hooded Troyer and Challis Ridge collided at the 300 metre mark and again at the 250 metre mark. Oh Lele Simon tailed off.

Oh Lele Simon was vetted following the event.  It was reported that the greyhound sustained an injury to its right monkey muscle.  A 28 day stand down period was imposed.

Hello Slick was slow to begin.  Rickie Metisse and Parisienne collided soon after the start.  Hide The Wallet, Silver Banjo and Dashing Magic collided soon after the start.  Parisienne and Hey Hey Fozz collided at the 300 metre mark.  Hey Hey Fozz raced wide at the 300 metre mark checking Hide The Wallet, Silver Banjo and Dashing Magic.  Hey Hey Fozz crossed to the outside at the 250 metre mark checking Dashing Magic.  Parisienne crossed to the outside at the 250 metre mark.  Hello Slick and Silver Banjo collided approaching the winning post checking Silver Banjo.

This event was delayed by approximately 6 minutes due to Don's Shy Girl becoming loose momentarily behind the starting boxes whilst boxing the greyhounds. All greyhounds were removed from the starting boxes, vetted and passed fit to race.

Stewards spoke to Mr. D. Basile, the representative of Locket Out regarding the length of time the greyhound has had between races.  Locket Out last raced on 6th September 2016 and is returning to race after a right stopper injury.  Mr. Basile also declared a new weight of 33.5kgs for the greyhound in accordance with GAR 39(2).  Locket Out last raced at 32.3kgs.

Stewards spoke to Mr. G. Hammerstein, the trainer of Franklin Pearl regarding the length of time the greyhound has had between races.  Franklin Pearl last raced on 27th November 2016 and is returning to race after a change of trainer and a spell.  Mr. Hammerstein also declared a new weight of 27.7kgs for the greyhound in accordance with GAR 39(2).  Franklin Pearl last raced at 26.0kgs.

A pre-race sample was taken from Selynya Prince.

Locked Out, Dynamite Dozer and Franklin Pearl collided soon after the start.  Onto Jatt and Don's Shy Girl collided soon after the start.  Locked Out checked off Dynamite Dozer at the 250 metre mark.  Gotta Permit, Onto Jatt and Blue Westmead collided at the 200 metre mark.

Stewards spoke to handler Mr. K. Quinn regarding the boxing of Don's Shy Girl. Mr. Quinn stated that the greyhound initially went in the starting boxes fine but then unexpectedly ducked down and quickly backed out of the box. Mr. Quinn said he was unable to gain control of the greyhound and she became loose. Stewards noted Mr. Quinn's explanation and taking into consideration his experience issued him with a warning and advised him to be more vigilant in future. Stewards directed that Don's Shy Girl be boxed first in future events pursuant to GAR 52(2).

Satisfactory Trial Results

Telling Lies trialled over the 300 metre distance from box 2, weight 28.8kgs.  The greyhound was placed 1st, in a field of 4.  The time of the trial was 17.17. The greyhound won by a margin of 1.5 lengths.  Telling Lies was cleared.
