Stewards spoke to Ms. V. Watson, the trainer of Tonsils Memory regarding the length of time since the greyhound last raced. Tonsils Memory last raced on 19th September 2016. Ms. Watson stated that the greyhound was returning to race after being new to her kennel.

Road To Nhill, Hey Shaza Fozz, Cowboy Brett and Way Things Are were slow to begin. Puzzled Royal and Tonsils Memory collided soon after the start. Cowboy Brett and Way Things Are collided soon after the start and again at the 250 metre mark. Hey Shaza Fozz and Cowboy Brett collided at the 200 metre mark.
