Tomdor was slow to begin.  Five Mississippi stumbled at box rise and was  very slow to begin as a result (5 lengths).  Charly Shu Shine and Rangler Bale collided soon after the start, checking Rangler Bale.  Nick and Cosmic Josie collided approaching the first turn and again on the first turn, checking Cosmic Josie.  Charly Shu Shine checked off Cosmic Josie on the first turn. Five Mississippi was vetted following the event and after being re-vetted following race 8, it was reported that there was no apparent injury found.

Stewards spoke to Mr. P. Brennan, kennel representative of English regarding the length of time the greyhound has had between races.  English last raced on 1st June, 2016.  Mr. Brennan stated that the greyhound was returning to racing following a shoulder injury.

Stewards spoke to Mr. B. Sands, trainer of Lopsided regarding the greyhounds performance in the concluding stages of the event.  Mr. Sands stated that he expected the greyhound to lead for the majority of the event and thought he would be able to run out the 660 metre distance.  He agreed that the greyhound was better suited to the 520 metre after tonight's race and would enter the greyhound back at this distance in future.
