Divine Calling and Strictly were slow to begin.
Arcus and Aston Astrid collided approaching the first turn. Aston Tonto checked off Leggero on the first turn, checking Divine Calling. Leggero checked off Aston Astrid on the first turn. Poppy To Burn and Arch See All collided approaching the home turn; checking both greyhounds. Poppy To Burn, Arch See All and Arcus collided on the home turn; checking all three greyhounds. Leggero and Aston Tonto collided on the home turn. Aston Astrid marred Poppy To Burn entering the home straight; checking Poppy To Burn and Arcus. Aston Astrid marred Poppy To Burn in the home straight. Divine Calling checked off Leggero approaching the winning post.
Aston Astrid underwent a post–race veterinary examination – no apparent injury was reported. Stewards spoke to representative Mr John Campbell regarding the greyhound’s racing manners on the home turn and entering the home straight. Acting under the provisions of GAR 69(1) Aston Astrid was charged with marring. Mr Campbell pleaded guilty to the charge, Aston Astrid was suspended for 28 days at Ballarat only and must perform a Satisfactory Trial in accordance with GAR 69(2) and GAR 72, before any future nomination will be accepted.
