The first split section for this event was manually timed.
Shania's Dream, Reiko Shock and Jack's Rose collided soon after the start; checking Reiko Shock, which fell. Bourne Blue, Caribbean Queen and Over Value collided on the first turn; checking Caribbean Queen, which collided with Jack's Rose and Urunga Bale; resulting in Caribbean Queen and Jack's Rose being severely checked and Urunga Bale falling.
Reiko Shock underwent a post–race veterinary examination – no apparent injury was reported.
Urunga Bale underwent a post–race veterinary examination and was found to have spike wounds to the right foreleg and right hindleg paw. No stand down period was imposed.
