Steward's Report

Essential persons (both staff and participants) attending today, undertook successful health screenings, wore face masks, observed social distance requirements and adhered to room density quotients that in-turn, permitted entry to the venue for exclusive race-day functions and operations.

Oberon Bale was quick to begin.  Bolt Out was slow to begin.

Mepunga Legend and Buster Giblet collided soon after the start checking Buster Giblet.  Descent, Raptor and Aston Virago collided on the first turn checking Aston Virago, Buster Giblet and Bolt Out.  Moon Over Mexico and Mepunga Legend collided on the first turn checking both greyhounds.  Raptor galloped on Descent approaching the home turn checking both greyhounds.  Buster Giblet checked off Mepunga Legend approaching the home turn.  Descent and Raptor collided on the home turn.  Oberon Bale faltered approaching the winning post and lost ground.

Oberon Bale underwent a post-race veterinary examination and was re-examined following race 7. Oberon Bale was found to have a right hock sprain, a 7 day stand down period was imposed. Stewards spoke to trainer Mr Daniel Gibbons regarding the greyhound’s racing manners approaching the winning post. After hearing evidence from Mr Gibbons and viewing the available race footage, Stewards also consulted with the on-track veterinarian who believed the greyhound may have underlying injuries that were unable to be detected immediately after running. As a result of this, and in accordance with GAR 75 (1), the Stewards requested Mr. Gibbons to report as soon as practicable anything that may have affected the running of Oberon Bale in the event, which was not noted by Stewards during or immediately after the event.

Supplementary Report

Trainer D. Gibbons explained at the Geelong meeting on 20th August that Oberon Bale has soreness in its right hock and would be having a few weeks off.
