Steward's Report
All Staff & Participants attending the race-meeting wore face masks at all times when inside the Kennel Block and Associated Buildings and when engaged in the exclusive race-day functions of handling, boxing, starting & catching greyhounds.
In accordance with the GRV Hot Weather Policy, this meeting was deemed 'Heat Affected'. At the commencement of kennelling, the outside temperature was 27.2 degrees and the kennel temperature was 16.7 degrees. The Stewards continually monitored the temperature at the venue as per the GRV Hot Weather Policy.
Deputy Sam was slow to begin. Enzo's Girl and King Cabang collided approaching the first turn. Crumb Snags and Bluesette Queen collided approaching the first turn. Enzo's Girl, Chillout Cookie, Crumb Snags and Bluesette Queen collided on the first turn checking Enzo's Girl. Crumb Snags eased approaching the home turn and collided with Bluesette Queen. Harden and Enzo's Girl collided entering the home straight. Crumb Snags and King Cabang collided entering the home straight. Deputy Sam eased in the home straight and approaching the winning post.
Enzo's Girl underwent a post-race veterinary examination and was found to have a spike wound to the front left toe. No stand down period was imposed.
Stewards spoke to Mr T.Vantaarling regarding the racing manners of Enzo's Girl in the event. After hearing evidence from Mr Vantaarling, viewing all the available race footage and acting on their observations, a warning was issued regarding the greyhound’s racing manners in the event.
Kennel representative, Mr Jack Campbell of Crumb Snags declined to have the greyhound vetted.
Deputy Sam underwent a post-race veterinary examination and was found to have injuries to the left back and right thigh muscles, a 10 day stand down period was imposed. Stewards spoke to Mr. Alfred Debattista the trainer of Deputy Sam, regarding the greyhounds racing manners in the home straight. Acting under the provisions of GAR 69B (1), Deputy Sam was charged with failing to pursue the lure with due commitment (by reason of injury). Mr. Debattista pleaded guilty to the charge, Deputy Sam was found guilty and must perform a Satisfactory Trial in accordance with GAR 69B (1) and pursuant to GAR 72, before any future nomination will be accepted.
A post-race sample was taken from Crumb Snags - winner of the event.
