Steward's Report

All staff and participants attending the race meeting wore face masks at all times when inside the kennel block and associated buildings, and when engaged in the exclusive race day functions of handling, boxing, starting and catching greyhounds.

Amber Mahogany was slow to begin.

Roxy Usuki and Play A Tune collided soon after the start and again approaching the first turn, checking both greyhounds. Temptation Craze and Phaenon Bale collided on the first turn checking Phaenon Bale and Play A Tune. Legend Jet, Roxy Usuki and Temptation Craze collided on the first turn checking Roxy Usuki and Temptation Craze. Temptation Craze and Play A Tune collided on the home turn and again in the home straight checking both greyhounds. Roxy Usuki and Legend Jet collided in the home straight checking Legend Jet. Amber Mahogany visibly eased and turned its head inwards in the home straight. Temptation Craze checked off Play A Tune in the home straight. Play A Tune and Amber Mahogany collided approaching the winning post. 

Amber Mahogany underwent a post-race veterinary examination and was found to have no apparent injury. Mr A. King declined the option to have the greyhound re-vetted.

Stewards spoke to Mr A. King, the trainer of Amber Mahogany regarding the greyhound’s racing manners in the home straight.  Acting under the provisions of GAR 69A(1) Amber Mahogany was charged with failing to pursue the lure with due commitment.  Mr King pleaded guilty to the charge, Amber Mahogany was found guilty and suspended for 28 days at Ballarat and must perform a Satisfactory Trial in accordance with GAR 69A (2) and pursuant to GAR 72, before any future nomination will be accepted.

A post-race sample was taken from Roxy Usuki - the winner of the event.
