A pre-race sample was taken from Mr. Buddy Lee.
Midoriyama and Careless Crow collided soon after the start. Midoriyama and Sweet Hostility collided soon after the start, checking Sweet Hostility. Midoriyama and Careless Crow collided approaching the first turn; checking Careless Crow and Sweet Hostility. Mr. Buddy Lee checked off Monument Valley on the first turn; checking Mr. Buddy Lee, causing Midoriyama and Mr. Buddy Lee to collide; severely checking both greyhounds, causing Midoriyama to lose ground; checking Sweet Hostility.
Midoriyama underwent a post-race veterinary examination and was found to have left hindleg thigh, quadriceps and pencil/whip injuries. A five day stand down period was imposed.
