The traditional 2-wave (odds then evens) boxing process has been re-instated for all races in Victoria from Tuesday 10 November 2020. Handlers are required to exit the area after boxing and maintain their 1.5m distance from other handlers and staff at all times. 

All persons (both Staff & Participants) attending today, undertook successful health screenings and wore face-masks that in-turn, permitted entry to the venue for exclusive race-day functions and operations.

In accordance with the GRV Hot Weather Policy, this meeting was deemed 'Heat Affected'.  At the commencement of kennelling, the outside temperature was 35 degrees, and the kennel temperature was 18 degrees.  The Stewards continually monitored the temperature at the venue as per the GRV Hot Weather Policy.

The closing time of kennelling was altered in accordance with GAR 31, due to the late arrival of several trainers from the West who experienced significant traffic delays on–route to the track. The kennels closed at 6.04pm.

Under clause 32 of the Hot Weather Policy the Stewards dispensed of requirement 15 of the Hot Weather Policy and the parading of greyhounds was conducted for Races 4-12.

Plan Ahead and Mepunga Reject collided in the front straight.  Major Sacrifice and Shima Jake collided approaching the first turn.  Westar Manson visibly eased approaching the first turn.  Mepunga Reject checked off Major Sacrifice on the first turn checking Mepunga Reject, severely checking Plan Ahead and Westar Bundy, both greyhounds fell as a result.  Shima Jake checked off Post Office Girl entering the back straight.  Westar Manson checked off Mepunga Reject approaching the home turn.  Major Sacrifice and Post Office Girl collided entering the home straight.  Westar Manson turned its head inwards entering the home straight.  Major Sacrifice and Post Office Girl collided in the home straight.  Westar Manson and Mepunga Reject collided approaching the winning post. 

Plan Ahead underwent a post-race veterinary examination - no apparent injury was reported.

Westar Bundy underwent a post-race veterinary examination and was found to have a right carpal sprain.  A 7 day stand down period was imposed.

Westar Manson underwent a post-race veterinary examination and was found to have a right carpal sprain, a 7 day stand down period was imposed.  Stewards spoke to the representative, Mr. James Shaw regarding the greyhounds racing manners approaching the first turn and again entering the home straight.  Acting under the provisions of GAR 69B (1), Westar Manson was charged with failing to pursue the lure with due commitment (by reason of injury). Mr. Shaw pleaded guilty to the charge, Westar Manson was found guilty and must perform a Satisfactory Trial in accordance with GAR 69B (1)(a) and GAR 72, before any future nomination will be accepted.

McMahon regarding the greyhound's racing manner approaching the winning post.  After hearing evidence from Mr McMahon, viewing all the available race footage and acting on their observations, a warning was issued.

A post-race sample was taken from Marshall's King - winner of the event. Stewards spoke to trainer Mr D. Douch regarding the significant market support for this greyhound. Mr Douch's explanation was noted. The GRV betting analyst will review all transactions for this event. 

Supplementary Reports

Handsome Princes - 25 November 2020:  Trainer Mr Peter Lagogiane notified Stewards that Handsome Prince was found to have a dislocated toe after racing that will require Handsome Prince to spell and recuperate for up to 6 weeks. Trainer Perter Lagogiane was also reminded of his responsibilities under GAR 75 – Matter Effecting Performance in that he is required to advise Stewards of any injury or circumstance that may have had a bearing on future or past performances, without delay and as soon as practicable.

Manila Knight - 25 November 2020: Trainer Mr Mario Briganti notified Stewards that Manila Knight had pulled up flat from his heat run that required Manila Knight to be taken to Dr Des Fagan on Saturday morning following the race. Manila Knight had several "bloods" done to assess and treatment to improve the greyhound’s health, suitability and fitness were undertaken. Supplementary Report 26 November 2020: Trainer Mr Mario Briganti notified Stewards that Manila Knight was in good health and further tests late Wednesdays on Manila Knight had come back with good results and the markers for the tests "were where they needed to be". Manila Knight is fit and would start in the Bold Trease.

Here's Tears - Sandown 20/11/2020 Race 2 Bold Trease Heat - Trainer Mr R. Britton reported that he checked the greyhound on Saturday morning (21/11/2020) and could not detect any abnormalities.
