Layback Cruiser checked off Go Natalie Go on the first turn causing Layback Cruiser to gallop on the heels of No More Partying, checking No More Partying. Go Natalie Go, Ma's Plum Jam and Cawbourne Get Up collided on the first turn checking Ma's Plum Jam and Cawbourne Get Up. Layback Cruiser and No More Partying collided on the home turn checking both greyhounds.
Layback Cruiser underwent a post-race veterinary examination and was found to have abrasions and spike wounds to the left front paw, thumps and a track leg injury to the left hindleg. A 5 day stand down period was imposed. Stewards spoke to Ms. K. Houlihan, the handler of Layback Cruiser, regarding the greyhound's performance in the home straight. Ms. Houlihan stated that Layback Cruiser failed to strongly run the distance in tonight's event. Ms. Houlihan added that Layback Cruiser is best suited when racing on pace and felt that the interference suffered during the event contributed to the greyhound's below market expectation performance.
