Steward's Report
Placid Murphy and Farfalla Nera collided soon after the start. Placid Murphy checked off Tinderella on the first turn. One More Light and Aremac Igor collided on the first turn. Early King crossed to the outside on the home turn and collided with Tinerella checking both greyhounds.
Following the event Placid Murphy displayed signs of Post Exercise Distress Syndrome (PEDS). As a result, the greyhound underwent a veterinary examination and was found to be displaying clinical signs of Ataxia/Hypermetria. A 7 day stand down penalty was imposed.
Stewards spoke to Mr Trevor Whitford, the trainer of Placid Murphy. After hearing submissions, the Stewards acted in accordance with GAR 74 and Placid Murphy must perform a Satisfactory Trial (all tracks) and receive a veterinary clearance before any future nomination will be accepted.
Farfalla Nera underwent a post-race veterinary examination - no apparent injury was reported.
A post-race sample was taken from One More Light - the winner of the event.
Meeting Comments
Starman – Performed a Stewards Satisfactory Trial as the greyhound has not competed in an event for in excess of six months due to left hock injury. Weighing 32.1kg and beginning from box 1, Starman completed the 311m trial distance in a time of 18.17. Starman placed 1st in a field of 4 starters winning by 6.25 lenghts. Starman has been cleared to race.
A sample was taken from Starman prior to the trial in accordance with GAR 79 (1), having presented for a satisfactory trial.
Rock Me Xanthe – Performed a Stewards Satisfactory Trial as the greyhound was stood down from racing at Cranbourne for Fail To Chase. Weighing 28.7kg and beginning from box 8, Rock Me Xanthe completed the 311m trial distance in a time of 18.72. Rock Me Xanthe placed 3rd in a field of 4 starters beaten by 8 lengths. Rock Me Xanthe has not been cleared to race as it eased on the first turn.
A sample was taken from Rock Me Xanthe prior to the trial in accordance with GAR 79 (1), having presented for a satisfactory trial.
