A pre-race sample was taken from Baloney Bill.
Southerly was slow to begin.
Punt Road Girl, Tao Tao and Dyna Jenaya collided soon after the start, checking Tao Tao. Punt Road Girl, Dyna Zapto and Dyna Jenaya collided soon after the start, checking all three greyhounds. Tao Tao and Baloney Bill collided approaching the first turn, checking both greyhounds. Nod Ya Head visibly eased on the first turn, checking Mat's Road. Dyna Zapto checked off the heels of Baloney Bill on the first turn. Tao Tao and Southerly collided approaching the home turn, checking Southerly. Punt Road Girl and Dyna Jenaya raced wide on the home turn. Dyna Zapto and Mat's Road collided approaching the winning post, checking both greyhounds.
Stewards spoke to Mr Steven McDonnell, the trainer of the greyhound Nod Ya Head, regarding the greyhound’s racing manners on the first turn. Nod Ya Head was vetted following the event. It was reported that the greyhound sustained injuries to the left long head triceps (monkey) muscle, a five-day stand down period was imposed. Acting under GAR 69(B)(1), the stewards charged Nod Ya Head with failing to pursue the lure with due commitment (by reason of injury). Mr McDonnell pleaded not guilty to the charge, Nod Ya Head was found guilty and stewards directed that the greyhound perform a Satisfactory Trial (all tracks) pursuant to GAR 69(B)(1)(a), before any future nomination will be accepted.
