An Out of Competition Sample was taken from Alabama Lane engaged in this event on 2 January, 2018 pursuant to GAR 79A.
Cheese Icy was very slow to begin (3 lengths). Don's Gas was slow to begin. Gray Grey Goose and Fruit Frames collided soon after the start. Alabama Lane, Gray Grey Goose and Fruit Frames collided approaching the first turn, checking Gray Grey Goose. Don's Gas and Warming Galo's collided on the first turn. Alabama Lane and Fruit Frames collided on the first turn, checking Fruit Frames and severely checking Alabama Lane. Don's Gas and Warming Galo's collided entering the home straight and in the home straight.
A sample was taken from Naomi Allen - the winner of the event.
Stewards charged Mr. P. Matthews, the trainer of Cheese Icy, with a breach of GAR 46(2) in that he failed to appear at the kennels by the appointed time to retrieve the greyhound for racing. Mr. Matthews pleaded guilty to the charge. Steward's issued Mr. Matthews with a reprimand on this occasion.
