Sandown Track Curator, Mr Brett Skurrie advised that the racing surface was medium harrowed on Monday 18 December, 2017.

A pre-race sample was taken from Mars Rising upon arrival at the course, prior to kennelling.

Slingshot Storm, Cain Hoy and Shayna Powers were slow to begin.

Slingshot Storm checked off Galloping Fantom soon after the start and collided with Cryer's Plugger.  Naughty Cazza crossed in approaching the first turn checking Galloping Fantom and Cryer's Plugger.  Slingshot Storm checked off Cain Hoy approaching the first turn.  Cain Hoy checked off Galloping Fantom approaching the first turn checking Cryer's Plugger.  Mars Rising, Newfire Drewie and Naughty Cazza collided on the first turn checking Mars Rising and Newfire Drewie.  Cain Hoy crossed out in the back straight checking Galloping Fantom and Slingshot Storm.  Cryer's Plugger, Slingshot Storm and Galloping Fantom collided on the third turn checking Slingshot Storm and Cryer's Plugger.  Cain Hoy veered out and marred Newfire Drewie approaching the home turn, checking Cain Hoy and severely inconveniencing Newfire Drewie.

Newfire Drewie was vetted following the event.  It was reported that the greyhound sustained a left hind laceration, no stand down period was imposed.

Cain Hoy was vetted following the event.  It was reported that the greyhound sustained left and right deltoid soreness and a right triangle injury, a 14 day stand down period was imposed.

Stewards spoke to Mr G. Jose, the trainer of the greyhound Cain Hoy regarding the greyhounds racing manners approaching the home turn. Acting under GAR 69(1) stewards charged Cain Hoy with marring. Mr Jose pleaded guilty to the charge, Cain Hoy was found guilty and suspended for 28 days at Sandown and it was directed that the greyhound perform a Satisfactory Trial (all tracks), pursuant to GAR 69(2)(a) before any future nomination will be accepted.

Stewards issued a caution to Mr P. Goold in relation to his difficulty in effectively boxing Newfire Drewie.

West On Xandi, Weeona Jimmy and Roger Express were slow to begin.

Telarah Flash checked off Garick Olivander soon after the start and collided with West On Xandi.  Garick Olivander and Tiggerlong Thief collided approaching the first turn.  Midnight Hero and Miss Innings collided approaching the first turn checking Midnight Hero, Tiggerlong Thief and Garick Olivander.  Telarah Flash and West On Xandi collided on the first turn.  Garick Olivander, Tiggerlong Thief and Midnight Hero collided on the first turn checking Tiggerlong Thief, Weeona Jimmy and Roger Express, Weeona Jimmy and Roger Express raced wide as a result.  Garick Olivander checked off Midnight Hero entering the back straight.  Garick Olivander and Roger Express collided in the back straight, approaching the home turn and on the home turn.  Telarah Flash and Miss Innings collided entering the home straight.

Oronsay, Alpha Themis, Ving Bale, Leprechaun Storm and Oshkosh Expert collided approaching the first turn checking Alpha Themis, Leprechaun Storm and Oshkosh Expert.  Vis Vitae and Ving Bale collided in the front straight.  Leprechaun Storm and Oshkosh Expert collided in the front straight.  Alpha Themis, Leprechaun Storm and Oshkosh Expert collided approaching the second turn checking Vis Vitae, Dyna Chill, Ving Bale and severely checking Alpha Themis and causing Leprechaun Storm to fall.  Dyna Chill and Ving Bale collided approaching the third turn checking Dyna Chill.  Meehan Sox and Oshkosh Expert collided on the home turn.

Alpha Themis was vetted following the event.  It was reported that the greyhound sustained a right deltoid and right shoulder soreness, a 7 day stand down period was imposed.

Leprechaun Storm was vetted following the event.  It was reported that the greyhound sustained left and right deltoids soreness, left and right saddle soreness and lacerations to the left front stopper, left hind digit 4 and right hind metatarsal, a 14 day stand down period was imposed.

Dance Craze and Coolan Flash collided soon after the start. Gotham Queen, Billy Deeds and Sturridge collided soon after the start.  May Haze and Coolan Flash collided several times approaching the first turn checking Diamond Ruby.  Gotham Queen and Billy Deeds collided on the first turn.  Sturridge and Coolan Flash collided on the second turn turning May Haze outwards.  Diamond Ruby and Sturridge collided approaching the home turn.

Samples were taken from placegetters - Eyes On You (1st) and Dance Craze (2nd).

Crash Bandicoot and Tito Mojito collided soon after the start checking Tito Mojito and Arapaho Joe.  Oshkosh Yobbo checked off Arapaho Joe soon after the start.  Leo's Gift checked off Dyna Nina approaching the first turn resulting in Tito Mojito to gallop on the heels of Leo's Gift, Leo's Gift stumbled and raced wide as a result.  Arapaho Joe checked off Noaki Colour on the first turn.  Rapanui Reveller and Crash Bandicoot collided on the first turn.  Tito Mojito checked off Crash Bandicoot on the second turn.  Arapaho Joe checked off Crash Bandicoot on the third turn.  Tito Mojito and Arapaho Joe collided on the home turn and again in the home straight.  Rapanui Reveller and Dyna Nina collided in the home straight and again approaching the winning post.  Leo's Gift raced wide throughout the event.

Leo's Gift was vetted following the event.  It was reported that the greyhound sustained a right monkey and right triangle injuries, a 10 day stand down period was imposed.

Mutant, Zero Whispers and Paraphernalia collided on the first turn checking Zero Whispers.  Watch The Wasp checked off Blackjack Neo on the first turn.  Tiggerlong Cruz and Blackjack Neo shifted out and raced wide from the second turn to the third turn.  Tiggerlong Cruz raced wide in the back straight.  Zero Whispers checked off Mutant on the fourth turn.  Vancouver Star raced wide on the home turn.  Zero Whispers and Blackjack Neo collided on the home turn.  Blackjack Neo checked off Watch The Wasp in the home straight.

Angel Dash crossed in soon after the start checking Angel Dash and Bewildering.  Bewildering contacted the running rail approaching the first turn and collided with Angel Dash, causing Angel Dash to race wide as a result.  Bruce Tycoon crossed to the rail approaching the first turn checking Igor Karkaroff, Not Available, Black Mumbo and Zipping Hawk.  Black Mumbo and Bewildering collided on the first turn.  Bewildering checked off Black Mumbo approaching the second turn checking Angel Dash.  Not Available, Zipping Hawk and Verne Allen collided on the second turn checking Not Available and Zipping Hawk.

Bewildering was vetted following the event.  It was reported that there was no apparent injury found.

Wadelock Mindy was a late scratching at 12:48pm due to illness (Diarrhoea) (GAR 23).  A 10 day stand down period was imposed. Stewards will require a veterinary certificate before any future nomination will be accepted.

Cindeen Jates was quick to begin.

Hyperactive and Nash Road Betty collided soon after the start.  Nash Road Betty, Air Load and Charlie Haze collided soon after the start checking Charlie Haze.  Hyperactive, Nash Road Betty and Air Load collided approaching the first turn checking Hyperactive, Nash Road Betty and Charlie Haze, Hyperactive contacted the running rail.  Hyperactive and Charlie Haze collided on the second turn checking Charlie Haze.  Hyperactive shifted out through the third turn and raced wide.

Rockstar Stratus and Oshkosh Uni Chet were slow to begin.

Dewana Special, Anustar, Fool Proof, My Miss Molly, Allen Mike and Nike Viper collided approaching the first turn checking Fool Proof, Allen Mike and Nike Viper, Allen Mike and Nike Viper raced wide as a result.  Rockstar Stratus checked off Anustar on the third and collided with Allen Mike checking Rockstar Stratus and Oshkosh Uni Chet.  Rockstar Startus visibly eased and pulled up on the fourth turn, tailing off as a result.  Anustar and Allen Mike collided on the home turn.  Allen Mike checked off Nike Viper entering the home straight. 

Rockstart Stratus was vetted and re-vetted following event 12.  It was reported that there was no apparent injury found.

Stewards spoke to Mrs B. Ennis, the trainer of the greyhound Rockstar Stratus regarding the greyhounds racing manners on the fourth turn. Acting under GAR 69(A)(1) stewards charged Rockstar Stratus with failing to pursue the lure with due commitment. Mrs Ennis pleaded guilty to the charge, Rockstar Stratus was found guilty and suspended for 28 days at Sandown and it was directed that the greyhound perform a Satisfactory Trial (all tracks), pursuant to GAR 69(A)(2)(a) before any future nomination will be accepted.
