Steward's Report
Sandown Track Curator, Mr Brett Skurrie advised that the racing surface was medium harrowed on Monday 18 December, 2017.
A pre-race sample was taken from Mars Rising upon arrival at the course, prior to kennelling.
Slingshot Storm, Cain Hoy and Shayna Powers were slow to begin.
Slingshot Storm checked off Galloping Fantom soon after the start and collided with Cryer's Plugger. Naughty Cazza crossed in approaching the first turn checking Galloping Fantom and Cryer's Plugger. Slingshot Storm checked off Cain Hoy approaching the first turn. Cain Hoy checked off Galloping Fantom approaching the first turn checking Cryer's Plugger. Mars Rising, Newfire Drewie and Naughty Cazza collided on the first turn checking Mars Rising and Newfire Drewie. Cain Hoy crossed out in the back straight checking Galloping Fantom and Slingshot Storm. Cryer's Plugger, Slingshot Storm and Galloping Fantom collided on the third turn checking Slingshot Storm and Cryer's Plugger. Cain Hoy veered out and marred Newfire Drewie approaching the home turn, checking Cain Hoy and severely inconveniencing Newfire Drewie.
Newfire Drewie was vetted following the event. It was reported that the greyhound sustained a left hind laceration, no stand down period was imposed.
Cain Hoy was vetted following the event. It was reported that the greyhound sustained left and right deltoid soreness and a right triangle injury, a 14 day stand down period was imposed.
Stewards spoke to Mr G. Jose, the trainer of the greyhound Cain Hoy regarding the greyhounds racing manners approaching the home turn. Acting under GAR 69(1) stewards charged Cain Hoy with marring. Mr Jose pleaded guilty to the charge, Cain Hoy was found guilty and suspended for 28 days at Sandown and it was directed that the greyhound perform a Satisfactory Trial (all tracks), pursuant to GAR 69(2)(a) before any future nomination will be accepted.
Stewards issued a caution to Mr P. Goold in relation to his difficulty in effectively boxing Newfire Drewie.
A sample was taken from Naughty Cazza - winner of the event.
