Stewards spoke to Mr. J. Britton, the trainer of Mepunga Laser regarding the length of time the greyhound has had between races. Mepunga Laser last raced on 09 August, 2017. Mr. Britton stated that the greyhound was returning to racing following injuries to both metatarsals.

Starbright Vic and Scarlet Blu Boy collided soon after the start checking Starbright Vic. Kadabra Monelli and Winterstein collided approaching the first turn checking Winterstein. Kadabra Monelli and Canya Sassy collided on the first turn checking Kadabra Monelli. Starbright Vic checked off Winterstein on the home turn. Mepunga Laser raced wide on the home turn.
