A pre-race sample was taken from Juno Away.
Juno Away and Kingsley Boy collided soon after the start. Midnight Caviar and Piccolo Panther collided soon after the start. Hardaway Outlaw and Juno Away collided approaching the first turn. Kingsley Boy and Miss Barbados collided approaching the first turn. Midnight Caviar, Piccolo Panther and Hardaway Outlaw collided approaching the first turn checking Piccolo Panther. Kingsley Boy and Miss Barbados collided on the first turn checking Kingsley Boy. Fiery Chieftain, Juno Away and Tai Chi Mini collided on the first turn checking Midnight Caviar and Juno Away. Juno Away, Kingsley Boy and Hardaway Outlaw collided approaching the home turn checking Hardaway Outlaw. Juno Away and Kingsley Boy collided on the home turn and again entering the home straight.

Stewards spoke to Mr A. Ferguson, Trainer of Sweet Angel, regarding the length of time since the greyhound last raced. Sweet Angel last raced on 4th May, 2016. Mr Ferguson declared a new weight of 27.2kg, Mr Ferguson stated that the greyhound was new to his kennels. Pursuant to GAR 77A, Sweet Angel trialled over the 390m from Box 2, the greyhound was placed 4th in a field of four starters. The time of the trial was 22.11, the greyhound was beaten by a margin of 21.75 lengths. Sweet Angel was not cleared.
