Tredgar was slow to begin. Kyl's Me Mate, High Success and Hillbilly Bubba collided soon after the start checking Hillbilly Bubba. Iron Side and Kyl's Me Mate collided approaching the first turn checking Kyl's Me Mate. Tredgar, Kyl's Me Mate, High Success and Hillbilly Bubba collided approaching the home turn severely checking High Success and Kyl's Me Mate. Rose Of Dyanna and Iron Side collided approaching the home turn. Hillbilly Bubba checked off Iron Side in the home straight.
Kyl's Me Mate was vetted following the event. It was reported that the greyhound sustained an injury to its left thigh muscle. A 10 day stand down period was imposed.

Stewards spoke to Ms. D. Carr, the trainer of Secret Number regarding the length of time since the greyhound last raced. Secret Number last raced on 1st April 2016. Ms. Carr stated that the greyhound was returning to race after a right wrist injury. Pursuant to GAR 77A, Secret Number trialled over the 450 metre distance from box 1, weight 36.8kgs. The greyhound was placed 3rd, in a field of 4. The time of the trial was 22.47. The greyhound was beaten by a margin of 2.75 lengths. Secret Number was cleared.
