A pre race sample was taken from Silvertop.
Houston Bale was slow to begin. Uinka Allen checked off Destini Scorcher approaching the first turn. Helma Bale, Gumaroy Model and Destini Scorcher collided on the first turn, checking Destini Scorcher and Houston Bale. Gumaroy Model and Uinka Allen collided approaching the second turn, checking Gumaroy Model. Destini Scorcher galloped on the heels of Gumaroy Model on the second turn, checking both greyhounds. Helma Bale and Uinka Allen collided approaching the home turn.

Stewards spoke to Mr. C. Grenfell after it was established he had used his mobile phone following the event whilst handling the greyhound Houston Bale. Stewards charged Mr. Grenfell with a breach of GAR 44. Mr. Grenfell pleaded not guilty to the charge. Stewards found Mr. Grenfell guilty and fined him the sum of $100. In assessing penalty, Stewards noted that Mr. Grenfell had been fined the sum of $50 for the same matter in March 2016.
