Steward's Report
Race day samples were taken from He's Tangles and Aston Angelo at the trainer’s kennel on 1 February 2024.
Same Nightmare – New declared weight of 33.0kg, last raced at 34.5kg.
Forward Step underwent a post–race veterinary examination and was found to have a right hind toe injury. A 7 day stand down period was imposed. Stewards spoke to Mr Joe Uglietta regarding Forward Step's racing manners approaching the winning post. Acting under the provisions of GAR 124, Forward Step was charged with failing to pursue the lure with due commitment. Mr Uglietta pleaded not guilty to the charge. Forward Step was found guilty and suspended for 28 days at Healesville and must perform a Satisfactory Trial in accordance with GAR 127, and pursuant to GAR 132, before any future nomination will be accepted. Supplementary Report 16/02/2024: Trainer Joe Uglietta made application for a review of the greyhounds penalty imposed to the Stewards. Upon review, Stewards established Forward Step had previously been charged under GAR 125 for Failing to Pursue by reason of injury on 4 March 2023. Forward Step has subsequently completed more than 10 clear starts after the first offence and should have been afforded the dispension under the conditions of GAR 128. After considering the prior offence, the greater than 10 clear starts, and the injury found at this meeting on 2 February 2024, Stewards have amended the penalty to be imposed under GAR 125 by reason of injury at Healesville.
Stewards spoke to Mr Gerry Orr the trainer of Same Nightmare, after the greyhound stayed in the starting boxes and took no competitive part in the event. Stewards deemed the performance unsatisfactory. Acting in accordance with GAR 129, Same Nightmare must perform a Satisfactory Trial pursuant to GAR 132, before any future nomination will be accepted.
