Stella's Memory and Enter The Grouch were quick to begin. Miss Molly May and Drop The Hammer were slow to begin.
Stella's Memory, Miss Molly May, Joyous Spirit and Enter The Grouch collided soon after the start, checking Joyous Spirit. Stella's Memory and Enter The Grouch collided approaching the first turn. Stella's Memory and Miss Molly May collided approaching the first turn, checking Joyous Spirit. Joyous Spirit contacted the running rail on the first turn and lost ground as a result. Enter The Grouch, Drop The Hammer and Mr. Ten Percent collided on the first turn. Joyous Spirit and Enter The Grouch collided on the home turn. Joyous Spirit marred Enter The Grouch in the home straight resulting in both greyhounds tailing off.
Joyous Spirit underwent a post-race veterinary examination - no apparent injury was reported. Stewards spoke to representative Mr. K Coleman regarding the greyhound’s racing manners in the home straight. Acting under the provisions of GAR 69(1) Joyous Spirit was charged with marring. Mr. K Coleman pleaded guilty to the charge, Joyous Spirit was found guilty and suspended for 28 days at Ballarat and must perform a Satisfactory Trial in accordance with GAR 69(2) and GAR 72, before any future nomination will be accepted.
