Steward's Report
Essential persons (both staff & participants) attending today, provided satisfactory evidence of vaccination or exemption under the State Government’s mandatory vaccination (workers) directions, undertook successful health screenings, wore facemasks, observed social distance requirements, and adhered to room density quotients that in-turn, permitted entry to the venue for exclusive race-day functions and operations.
The closing time of kennelling was altered in accordance with GAR 31 due to operational requirements. The kennels closed at 10:05am.
Brave Lad and Hot Wash were slow to begin.
Jae's Wheels and Explodes To Burn collided soon after the start. Spanish Gold and Hold Fast Bella collided soon after the start. Brave Lad and Jezzali collided approaching the 200m mark. Jae's Wheels and Explodes To Burn collided from the 200m mark to the winning post. Spanish Gold and Hold Fast Bella collided approaching the 150m mark. Jezzali checked off Brave Lad at the 150m mark. Jae's Wheels visibly eased and turned its head outwards approaching the winning post causing Jae's Wheels and Explodes To Burn to be severely checked and race wide.
Jae's Wheels underwent a post-race veterinary examination and was re-examined following Race 2. Jae's Wheels was found to have an abrasion and contusion to the right hind foot, a 5 day stand down period was imposed. Stewards spoke to the Kennel Representative Ms Paula Boots, regarding the greyhound's racing manners approaching the winning post. Acting under the provisions of GAR 69B (1), Jae's Wheels was charged with failing to pursue the lure with due commitment (by reason of injury). Ms. Boots pleaded guilty to the charge and Jae's Wheels must perform a Satisfactory Trial in accordance with GAR 69B (1) and pursuant to GAR 72, before any future nomination will be accepted.
A post-race sample was taken from Brave Lad - winner of the event.
