All staff and participants attending the race meeting wore face masks at all times when inside the kennel block and associated building and when engaged in the exclusive race day functions of handling, boxing, starting and catching greyhounds.
In accordance with the GRV Hot Weather Policy, this meeting was deemed 'Heat Affected'. At the commencement of kennelling, the outside temperature was 32.9 degrees and the kennel temperature was 17.2 degrees. The Stewards continually monitored the temperature at the venue as per the GRV Hot Weather Policy.
Speedy Desire and Kraken Pearler were slow to begin. Hanaichi Empire and Speedy Desire collided approaching the first turn. Speedy Desire and Kraken Pearler collided approaching the home turn. Bee Lucky Banjo and Foresaken collided on the home turn. Kraken Pearler clipped the heels off Hanaichi Empire entering the home straight checking Kraken Pearler and Speedy Desire. Bee Lucky Banjo visibly eased and collided with Ziems Park Girl in the home straight checking Pie Night.
Bee Lucky Banjo underwent a post-race veterinary examination and was found to have a left chest injury, a 7 day stand down period was imposed. Stewards spoke to trainer, Mr Bernard Seymour regarding the greyhounds racing manners in the home straight. Acting under the provisions of GAR 69B (1), Bee Lucky Banjo was charged with failing to pursue the lure with due commitment (by reason of injury). Mr Seymour pleaded not guilty to the charge, Bee Lucky Banjo was found guilty and must perform a Satisfactory Trial in accordance with GAR 69B (1) and pursuant to GAR 72, before any future nomination will be accepted.
