Steward's Report
All staff & participants attending the race meeting wore face masks at all times when inside the kennel block and associated buildings, and when engaged in the exclusive race day functions of handling, boxing, starting and catching greyhounds.
In accordance with the GRV Hot Weather Policy, this meeting was deemed 'Heat Affected'. At the commencement of kennelling, the outside temperature was 32.1 degrees and the kennel temperature was 19.1 degrees. The Stewards continually monitored the temperature at the venue as per the GRV Hot Weather Policy.
The Stewards were advised that the track was medium harrowed on 08/01/21.
The start of this event was delayed by 1 minute to hold for an interstate harness race.
Millie's Wonder was quick to begin.
Exit Sign and Rival Wiggy collided approaching the first turn. Rival Wiggy and Mt. View Ginger collided on the first turn checking Rival Wiggy. Barooga Franky and Millie's Wonder collided on the first turn checking Millie's Wonder. Amber Mahogany, Millie's Wonder and Mt. View Ginger collided approaching the home turn. Amber Mahogany and Mt. View Ginger collided entering the home straight. Exit Sign and Mt. View Burner collided entering the home straight. Mt. View Burner turned its head outwards in the home straight and collided with Exit Sign. Millie's Wonder and Rival Wiggy collided approaching the winning post.
Mt. View Burner underwent a post-race veterinary examination and no apparent injury was found. Trainer Mr. T. Whitford declined to have the greyhound revetted.
Stewards spoke to Mr. T. Whitford, the trainer of Mt. View Burner, regarding the greyhound’s racing manners in the home straight. Acting under the provisions of GAR 69A(1) Mt. View Burner was charged with failing to pursue the lure with due commitment. Mr. Whitford pleaded not guilty to the charge, Mt. View Burner was found guilty and suspended for 28 days at Ballarat and must perform a Satisfactory Trial in accordance with GAR 69A (2) and pursuant to GAR 72, before any future nomination will be accepted.
A post-race sample was taken from Balt's Fantasy - winner of the event.
