Steward's Report

Villanelle was quick to begin. Mt. View Bee turned in the boxes and was very slow to begin - 5 lengths.

Villanelle turned its head out and and visibly eased soon after the start checking Mt. View Pearl, Mt. View Ginger and Persisted. Mt View Pearl and Mt. View Ginger collided approaching the 250m mark checking both greyhounds. Villanelle turned its head out and collided with Boes Bambino approaching the 200m mark. Colossal Fire and Villanelle collided from approaching the 200m mark to the 50m mark checking Villanelle.

Mt. View Bee underwent a post-race veterinary examination and was found to have and injury to the right monkey muscle. A 10 day stand down period was imposed. Mt. View Bee - turned in the boxes and took no competitive part in the race.  Placed on a Satisfactory Trial in accordance with GAR 52(1), pursuant to GAR 72.

Trainer, Mr Wayne Gummow declined to have Villanelle vetted. Stewards spoke to Mr Gummow, the trainer of Villanelle regarding the greyhound’s racing manners soon after the start. Acting under the provisions of GAR 69A(1) Villanelle was charged with failing to pursue the lure with due commitment. Mr Gummow pleaded guilty to the charge, Villanelle was found guilty and suspended for 28 days at Healesville and must perform a Satisfactory Trial in accordance with GAR 69A (2) and pursuant to GAR 72, before any future nomination will be accepted.

A post-race sample was taken from Colossal Fire - the winner of the event.
