Steward's Report
Due to Government Social Distancing Laws under COVID-19 and acting in accordance with GAR 51 (10), the Stewards have directed that the boxing process in Victoria will revert to and continue under the 4-wave model being 1 & 5 boxed first, followed by 3 & 7, followed by 2 & 6, followed by 4 & 8. Handlers are required to exit the area after boxing and maintain their 1.5m distance from other handlers and staff at all times.
All persons (both Staff & Participants) attending today, undertook successful health screenings that in-turn, permitted entry to the venue for exclusive race-day functions and operations.
Stewards questioned Trainer, Mr J. Galea regarding the number of starts Ginger Meggs has had over the past week - 8 starts in 28 days. Mr Galea stated that the greyhound does not trial between races, is regularly checked between runs and has been racing well on this program. Stewards noted Mr Galea's explanation.
Zanzibar Icon was quick to begin. Think Big Harry was slow to begin. Quid Pro Quo and Mepunga Fairy collided soon after the start. Apple Valley and Think Big Harry collided soon after the start checking Apple Valley. Ginger Meggs and Another Episode collided approaching the first turn. Zanzibar Icon and Think Big Harry collided on the first turn. Another Episode and Think Big Harry collided on the home turn. Zanzibar Icon galloped on the heels of Ginger Meggs in the home straight checking Ginger Meggs. Zanzibar Icon, Ginger Meggs and Quid Pro Quo collided in the home straight Apple Valley raced wide in the home straight.
Ginger Meggs underwent a post-race veterinary examination and was found to have an injury to the right triangle muscle. A 7 day stand down period was imposed.
