Steward's Report
Predator was quick to begin. My Girl was slow to begin.
My Girl Sal, California Gold and Predator collided soon after the start. Will's Bella and Fireweed collided soon after the start. Alsace galloped on the heels of Fireweed soon after the start checking Fireweed, California Gold, Predator and Alsace. My Girl Sal and Predator collided approaching the first turn. Predator and Alsace collided on the first turn checking both greyhounds. Will's Bella and Fireweed collided on the first turn. Romy Riccarton, Will's Bella and Fireweed collided approaching the second turn checking Romy Riccarton, severely checking Will's Bella and Fireweed. California Gold visibly eased approaching the second turn. Romy Riccarton and My Girl Sal collided entering the back straight checking Romy Riccarton. Fireweed raced wide entering the back straight. Will's Bella and Alsace collided entering the back straight.
Fireweed underwent a post-race veterinary examination, at the representative's request, and was found to have a right hock injury. A 60 day stand down period was imposed.
California Gold underwent a post-race veterinary examination and was found to have injuries to the right deltoid and right pencil muscles, a 7 day stand down period was imposed. Stewards spoke to representative Mr P. Riley, regarding the greyhounds racing manners approaching the second turn. Acting under the provisions of GAR 69(B)(1), California Gold was charged with failing to pursue the lure with due commitment (by reason of injury). Mr Riley pleaded guilty to the charge, California Gold must perform a Satisfactory Trial (all tracks) pursuant to GAR 69(B)(1)(a) before any future nomination will be accepted.
Trainer Mr A. Helleren was questioned regarding Romy Riccarton's racing manners approaching the second turn. After taking evidence from Mr Helleren. viewing the official replays and acting on their own observations Stewards issued a warning against the greyhound.
A post-race sample was taken from California Gold - the winner of the event.
