Can't Spell and Ali Tonic were slow to begin.
Evi Bale turned its head to the outside and crossed to the outside soon after the start, severley checking No Room, Queen Of Promise, Thug Rose, Legend Rose and Cute Patootie. Queen Of Promise and Thug Rose collided at the 200m mark. Evi Bale and Cute Patootie collided at the 200m mark checking both greyhounds. Can't Spell and Evi Bale collided approaching the 100m mark. Legend Rose and Cute Patootie collided at the 100m mark. Queen Of Promise checked off Thug Rose approaching the winning post.
Evi Bale underwent a post-race veterinary examination and was found to have a spike wound to the left hind toe, no stand down period was imposed. Stewards spoke to Trainer Mr Shane Jack, regarding the greyhounds racing manners soon after the start. Acting under the provisions of GAR 69(B)(1), Evi Bale was charged with failing to pursue the lure with due commitment (by reason of injury). Mr Jack pleaded not guilty to the charge, Evi Bale was found guilty and must perform a Satisfactory Trial (all tracks) pursuant to GAR 69(B)(1)(a) before any future nomination will be accepted.
Stewards spoke to Starter Mr Ryan Johnson and issued him with a warning after he failed to direct Can't Spell be boxed first in this event as endorsed. The incident was reported to the appropriate manager.
