Steward's Report

Groucho – Late scratching at 10:01am when trainer Ms Belinda Glen reported the greyhound to have a injured front left pad (GAR 23). A 10 day stand down period was imposed. Stewards will require a veterinary certificate before any future nomination will be accepted.

A pre-race sample was taken from Batik Print.

Seminole Wind was slow to begin. Quicksilver Hope and Bletchley collided approaching the first turn. Batik Print and Manifold collided on the home turn. Bletchley, Shining Opal and Quicksilver raced wide in the home straight.

Meeting Comments:

Stewards held an inquiry into the transportation used to convey Shining Opal to Bendigo today. Evidence was taken from Shining Opals’ trainer Mr Brent Merton and Racing Steward Mr Ian Taylor. Mr Merton accepted that the transport used by him today failed to comply with the GRV Transportation of Greyhounds Policy. The compliance issue was that a single door was not securely fixed to the frame of the trailer. Stewards noted Mr Merton’s forthright admissions and of importance, that the greyhound was not transported in the compartment (it was a 4 berth trailer) that was faulty. The Stewards issued Mr Mertons with an official warning and ordered that he fix the trailer to the required standards of the Transportation of Greyhounds Policy, before using this vehicle again. Failing to correct the issue will result in more punitive sanctions.
