Merry Magic was slow to begin. Oakvale Striker and Lanis Morris collided soon after the start. Lanis Morris and Lady Mikado collided soon after the start and again at the 200m mark. Merry Magic checked off Amlin Miss approaching the 200m mark. Lady Mikado and Doran's Call collided at the 100m mark, checking Doran's Call. Doran's Call checked off Lady Mikado approaching the 50m mark. Lady Mikado and Lanis Morris collided approaching the winning post.

Satisfactory Trial Results (GAR 77A) - Stewards spoke to Mr William McMahon, the trainer of Alberto, regarding the length of time since the greyhound last raced. Alberto last raced on 9 November 2017. Mr McMahon stated that the greyhound was returning to racing following a left metatarsal injury. Pursuant to GAR 77A, Alberto trialled over the 300m from box one, weight 30.1 kgs, the greyhound was placed first in a field of four. The time of the trial was 16:92 (hand-timed), the greyhound won by a margin of 6.5 lengths. Alberto was Cleared.
