Steward's Report
Stewards spoke to Mr Aaron Farley, the trainer of Ellen's Stardust, regarding the length of time the greyhound has had between races. Ellen's Stardust last raced on 25 May 2018. Mr Farley stated that the greyhound was returning to racing following retirement. Stewards noted that the greyhound ran a clearing trial at Traralgon on 24 September 2018 and was cleared.
A pre-race sample was taken from Ellen's Stardust.
Gunmetal Liam was slow to begin. Gunmetal Liam and Ellen's Stardust collided soon after the start, checking Gunmetal Liam. Tiggerlong Nosey, Really Magic, Mini Dozer, Love Laughing and Why Not Cory collided approaching the first turn, checking Mini Dozer and Love Laughing. Really Magic checked off Tiggerlong Nosey approaching the first turn, checking Love Laughing. Puffin' Stuff and Ellen's Stardust collided on the first turn, checking Why Not Cory, Puffin' Stuff, Gunmetal Liam and Ellen's Stardust; causing Gunmetal Liam to race wide. Love Laughing, Why Not Cory and Ellen's Stardust collided on the home turn, checking Love Laughing and Ellen's Stardust, and severely checking Why Not Cory; causing Why Not Cory to fall. Puffin' Stuff and Gunmetal Liam collided approaching the winning post.
Why Not Cory was vetted following the event. It was reported that the greyhound sustained abrasions to the right and leg forelegs and a right hindleg split webbing injury, a 14 day stand down period was imposed.
