Steward's Report
A pre-race sample was taken from Mr Moonlight.
May Haze was quick to begin. Speedy Scar was slow to begin. Zipping Oliver, Mr Moonlight, Real Obsession and Speedy Scar raced wide on the first turn. Mr Moonlight and Real Obsession collided on the first turn, checking Speedy Scar. Real Obsession crossed to the rail in the back straight, checking Mr Moonlight which collided with Speedy Scar; checking Speedy Scar. May Haze, Zipping Oliver and Mr Moonlight raced wide in the back straight. Mr Moonlight raced wide on the home turn.
May Haze was disappointing and vetted post-race. It was reported that the greyhound sustained right foreleg monkey and deltoid muscle injuries, a seven day stand down period was imposed. Stewards spoke to the handler, Mr Darryl Saunders, who shared the Stewards concerns. While the performance was not considered unsatisfactory by Stewards, an order was made under the provisions of GAR 75 that connections are to relay to the Stewards, the findings of a further veterinary examination, to be conducted in the coming days, of any other injury or matter that may be revealed.
Supplementary Report: On Monday 23 July 2018, May Haze was presented to the Walnut Veterinary Clinic for further examination. Dr Des Fagan has advised that May Haze presented with a severe sprain of the right shoulder and a probable tear of the right medial joint capsule. Dr Fagan recommended a 10-day recuperation period for these injuries.
