A trial of the GRV-endorsed real-time tracking system was conducted throughout today's racing program.  The racing rugs in selected 515m races today were fitted with a location tracking beacon as part of this trial.

Dr Abbie and Mighty Josiah were quick to begin.  Romanova was slow to begin.  Dyna Sarah was very slow to begin (2L).  Mel Moran and Star Reiko collided soon after the start.  Mel Moran and Creative Playboy collided on the first turn.  Mel Moran, Creative Playboy and Romanova collided on the second turn, checking Mel Moran.  Dyna Sarah and Star Reiko collided heavily on the home turn. Dyna Sarah checked off the heels of Star Reiko on the home turn and raced wide as a result.

Dyna Sarah was vetted following the event.  It was reported that the greyhound had abrasions to the hind feet.  No stand down period was imposed.  Stewards spoke with Mr Clint Capuano, the handler of Dyna Sarah, about the collision and subsequent checking off the heels of Star Reiko by Dyna Sarah, around the home turn area of this race.  After considering the incident, the Stewards were not satisfied that the actions of Dyna Sarah were anything more than an ungainly attempt to check-off the heels of Star Reiko.  Stewards advised connections that future performances will be monitiored.

Kraken Katie, No More Sisco and Bula Bang Bang were slow to begin.  Dewana No Secret and Pagan Dancer collided on the first turn, causing Pagan Dancer to race wide.  Celestial Jewel raced wide on the first turn.  Pagan Dancer and Dewana No Secret collided on the second turn.  Kiomara raced wide on the second turn.  Pagan Dancer checked off the heels of Lully Singh on the fourth turn.

La Vagabonde and Arnie Allen were slow to begin.  Potere, Savannah Ash, La Vagabonde and Special Drop collided soon after the start.  Savannah Ash and Special Drop collided on the first turn.  Staying In Paris raced wide on the first turn.

Potere was vetted following the event.  It was reported that the greyhound sustained an abrasion to the left antebrachium.  No stand down period was imposed.

A pre-race sample was taken from Fantastic Ghost.

Rapanui Revival was slow to begin.  Dashing Dino and Miles Per Gallon collided soon after the start.  Dee Dee One, Benny's Entity and Rapanui Revival collided approaching the first turn.  Marvellous Midge, Fantastic Ghost and Miles Per Gallon raced wide on the second turn.  Rapanui Revival and Marvellous Midge collided approaching the third turn.  Dashing Dino and Benny's Entity collided on the home turn, causing Benny's Entity out onto the heels of Lil Miss Earner; severely checking Lil Miss Earner and checking Benny's Entity.  

Lil Miss Earner was vetted following the event.  It was reported that the greyhound sustained abrasions to the right hind stifle and medial thigh, brusing to right hindleg and a spike wound to the right fore foot, a five day stand down period was imposed.

Samsonite and Bont's Magic collided on the first turn, checking Come On Colour.  Kayley's Comet raced wide on the first turn.  Come On Colour and Light The Track collided in the front straight, checking Light The Track.  Surfonic Gold and Kayley's Comet raced wide on the second turn.  Bont's Magic turned it's head, shifted sharply inwards and collided with King Colt in the home straight.

Stewards spoke to Ms Sharyn Combridge, the trainer of the greyhound Bont's Magic, regarding the racing manners in the home straight.  Bont's Magic was vetted and re-vetted following event seven.  It was reported that the greyhound sustained injuries to left and right foreleg sesamoid and left hindleg pencil/whip injuries, a 10 day stand down period was imposed.  Acting under GAR 69(B)(1), the Stewards charged Bont's Magic with failing to pursue the lure with due commitment (by reason of injury).  Ms Combridge pleaded not guilty to the charge, Bont's Magic was found guilty and Stewards directed that the greyhound perform a Satisfactory Trial (all tracks) pursuant to GAR 69(B)(1)(a), before any future nomination will be accepted.

A pre-race sample was taken from Mr Moonlight.

May Haze was quick to begin.  Speedy Scar was slow to begin.  Zipping Oliver, Mr Moonlight, Real Obsession and Speedy Scar raced wide on the first turn.  Mr Moonlight and Real Obsession collided on the first turn, checking Speedy Scar.  Real Obsession crossed to the rail in the back straight, checking Mr Moonlight which collided with Speedy Scar; checking Speedy Scar.  May Haze, Zipping Oliver and Mr Moonlight raced wide in the back straight.  Mr Moonlight raced wide on the home turn.

May Haze was disappointing and vetted post-race. It was reported that the greyhound sustained right foreleg monkey and deltoid muscle injuries, a seven day stand down period was imposed.  Stewards spoke to the handler, Mr Darryl Saunders, who shared the Stewards concerns.  While the performance was not considered unsatisfactory by Stewards, an order was made under the provisions of GAR 75 that connections are to relay to the Stewards, the findings of a further veterinary examination, to be conducted in the coming days, of any other injury or matter that may be revealed.

Supplementary Report: On Monday 23 July 2018, May Haze was presented to the Walnut Veterinary Clinic for further examination. Dr Des Fagan has advised that May Haze presented with a severe sprain of the right shoulder and a probable tear of the right medial joint capsule. Dr Fagan recommended a 10-day recuperation period for these injuries. 

Elevated was quick to begin.  Pretty Sensation was slow to begin.  Zipping Monty, Dyna Zad and Bacardi Breezer collided approaching the first turn, causing Dyna Zad to race wide.  Another Bling raced wide on the first turn.  Zipping Monty and Pretty Sensation collided in the front straight.  Zipping Monty checked off the heels of Doc's Reward approaching the fourth turn.

A sample was taken from Elevated - the winner of the event.

Shady Tex and Federal Lilly were quick to begin.  McNeo was slow to begin.  Junior Wizard and McNeo collided soon after the start.  Junior Wizard and Zara's Entity collided approaching the first turn.  Zipping Megan, Zara's Entity and McNeo raced wide on the first turn.  Junior Wizard raced wide on the home turn.

Stewards spoke to Ms Chelbe Colquhoun-Matthews, the handler of Junior Wizard, regarding the delay in boxing this greyhound.  After hearing submissions, the Stewards accepted an offer from Ms Colquhoun-Matthews to both undertake further training in boxing greyhounds privately and to restrict her official race-day handling activities, in the short-term, to smaller sized greyhounds.  A warning was issued on this occasion under the proviso that a further similar issue, may result in a more formal sanction.

A sample was taken from Junior Wizard - the winner of the event.

Sprint Tee and Miriam collided soon after the start.  Quartz Vein, Miriam and Sprint Tee collided approaching the first turn, severely checking Sprint Tee.  Sisco Ride, Miriam and Radiant Angel collided approaching the fourth turn, checking Sisco Ride.

A sample was taken from Big Bang Tears - the winner of the event.

A pre-race sample was taken from Banjo Fever.

Sable Sass, Pattaya Paul and Kalani Amy were quick to begin.  Vis Vitae was slow to begin.  Kalani Amy raced wide on the first turn.  Mo Dragon and Adam Mandam collided on the first turn.  Markinch Maid and Vis Vitae collided on the third turn, checking Vis Vitae.  Kalani Amy raced wide on the home turn.

Mo Dragon was vetted following the event.  It was reported that the greyhound sustained a left foreleg lost dew claw injury, a five day stand down period was imposed.

A pre-race sample was taken from Mr Pendles.

My Hardaway Hana was quick to begin.  Belisarius, Give Away King and Temujin were slow to begin.  Give Away King and Temujin collided soon after the start.  Make It Happen, Scarlet Magic, Mr Pendles and Dr Cadenza collided approaching the first turn, checking Scarlet Magic and Mr Pendles.  Dr Cadenza and Temujin raced wide on the first turn.  Scarlet Magic, Mr Pendles and Give Away King collided on the second turn.  Belisarius was held up approaching the home turn.

Mr Pendles was vetted following the event.  It was reported that the greyhound sustained a cervico-thoracic injury, a seven day stand down period was imposed.
