A pre-race sample was taken from Joe Panther.
Wise Lewis was quick to begin.
Church Parade and Montana Fernando collided soon after the start, checking Montana Fernando. Church Parade, Montana Fernando and Gunmetal James collided on the first turn, severely checking Gunmetal James which faltered, lost ground and tailed off as a result. Church Parade and Montana Fernando collided approaching the home turn.
Gunmetal James was vetted following the event. It was reported that the greyhound sustained an injury to the left long head triceps (monkey) muscle, a spike wound to the left leg and lacerations to the right hind leg. A ten-day stand down period was imposed. Stewards spoke to Mr Jason Formosa, the trainer of the greyhound Gunmetal James. Stewards deemed the performance of Gunmetal James unsatisfactory in this event and acting in accordance with GAR 71, directed that Gunmetal James must perform a Satisfactory Trial (all tracks) before any future nomination will be accepted. Mr Formosa indicated that the greyhound may be retired pending confirmation of rehoming.
