Gotta Be better and Spud's mate were slow to begin.
Trickster's Son and Zambra Icon collided soon after the start. Zambra Icon checked off Trickster's Son approaching the first turn checking Gotta Be Better. Minka's Destiny, Trickster's Son and Spud's mate collided on the first turn checking Trickster's Son and Spud's Mate. Trickster's Son checked off Spud's Mate approaching the home turn. Zambra Icon and Minka's Destiny collided on the home turn. Gotta Be Better and Spud's mate collided on the home turn. Teflon Toby and Atlas Roughead collided several times entering the home straight to the winning post. Trickster's Son raced wide in the home straight.
Atlas Roughead was vetted following the event. It was reported that the greyhound sustained an injury to the right groin. A stand down period of 7 days was imposed.
Stewards spoke to Mrs. L. Cookson, the trainer of the greyhound Atlas Roughead regarding the greyhounds racing manners in the home straight. Acting under GAR 69(A)(1) stewards charged Atlas Roughead with failing to pursue the lure with due commitment. Mrs. Cookson pleaded not guilty to the charge, Atlas Roughead was found guilty and suspended for 28 days at Shepparton and it was directed that the greyhound perform a Satisfactory Trial (all tracks), pursuant to GAR 69(A)(2)(a) before any future nomination will be accepted.
