Supplementary Report: Traralgon 15 January 2018.
GRV Stewards inquired into the late scratching of Tiggerlong Ray from Race 8 at Traralgon on 15 January 2018. Tiggerlong Ray was withdrawn by Trainer Ms Samantha Ferguson at 8.40am on the morning of the race, due to illness. After taking evidence from Ms Fergusson, GRV Stewards issued a charge under GAR 23 (1) (a) in that Ms Ferguson failed to examine Tiggerlong Ray prior to the appointed scratching time of 8.30am, on the day of the race, to ensure the greyhound was free of injury, illness or was on-season. Ms Ferguson pleaded guilty to the charge and was fined $200. When determining penalty, stewards took into consideration Ms Fergusons good record, guilty plea, her personnel antecedence and the forthright manner in which she conducted herself before the Stewards. Against these factors, stewards considered the need for general deterrence and that a reserve was therefore denied a start in the race. Save for Ms Fergusson’s mitigating factors, the penalty for this offence would be nominally higher.
This meeting was declared heat affected. At the start of kennelling the ambient outside temperature was 25.8 degrees. The kennel temperature was 22.3 degrees. At close of kennels the outside temperature was 21.1 degrees.
