A pre-race sample was taken from Blue Gum Hill upon arrival at the course, prior to kennelling.
Black Mumbo was slow to begin. Blue Gum Hill, Limburg Dan and Tuggeragh collided soon after the start. Aston Frankel checked off Rock Up Top approaching the first turn. Rock Up Top, Blue Gum Hill, Nangar Rock, Kilty Express and Black Mumbo collided on the first turn, severely checking Nangar Rock and Kilty Express. Aston Frankel and Blue Gum Hill collided in the back straight. Aston Frankel checked off Nangar Rock approaching the home turn.
