A pre-race sample was taken from Crackerjack Ale.
Benali and Crackerjack Ale collided soon after the start. Saint David, Pancake and Aeroplane Jet collided approaching the first turn. Canadash and Saint David collided on the first turn and again approaching the second turn. Aeroplane Jet and Canadash collided on the second turn. Aeroplane Jet, Canadash and Saint David collided in the back straight, checking Canadash. Benali clipped the heels of Crackerjack Ale in the home straight. Canadash and Benali raced wide in the home straight.
