Steward's Report
Zip Zip Anna was a late scratching at 13:56 on the advice of the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon due to injury. A 10 day stand down period was imposed.
A pre-race sample was taken from Mepunga Billy.
Certain Smile was quick to begin.
Rocket Ruby and Klondike Gold were slow to begin.
Mepunga Billy, Atu Kapil and Inga Ted collided soon after the start checking Atu Kapil. Rocket Ruby and Mexican Ned collided approaching the home turn. Mepunga Billy and Inga Ted collided approaching the home turn checking Rocket Ruby and Mexican Ned. Mepunga Billy and Atu Kapil collided on the home turn. Certain Smile eased on the home turn. Atu Kapil and Klondike Gold raced wide on the home turn and collided entering the home straight.
Certain Smile was vetted following the event. It was reported that the greyhound sustained a spike wound to the left fore leg. A stand down period of 5 days was imposed.
Stewards spoke to Mr. B. Baxter, the trainer of the greyhound Certain Smile regarding the greyhounds racing manners on the home turn. Acting under GAR 69(A)(1) stewards charged Certain Smile with failing to pursue the lure with due commitment. Mr. Baxter pleaded guilty to the charge, Certain Smile was found guilty and suspended the greyhound for 3 months (all tracks) and it was directed that the greyhound perform a Satisfactory Trial (all tracks), pursuant to GAR 69(A)(2)(b), before any future nomination will be accepted.
